Manual Therapy in Hoboken
WELLNESS
RECOVERY
Manual therapy is a hands-on approach to physical therapy used to address pain, stiffness, muscle tension, joint restrictions, and movement limitations.
At Nee’s Physical Therapy, we use manual therapy as part of a complete treatment plan. It is usually not the whole session. It is a tool we use when your body needs hands-on support, alongside movement, mobility work, strengthening, cupping, Graston, Gua Sha, or recovery boots, depending on your needs.

How Manual Therapy Works at Nee’s Physical Therapy
-

Assessment
We first evaluate where the pain, tightness, or restriction originates. The area that hurts is not always the source, so we look at how your joints, muscles, posture, and movement patterns are working together.
-

Hands-on Treatment
Manual therapy may include soft-tissue work, joint mobilization, assisted stretching, muscle release, and other hands-on techniques to help reduce restrictions and improve comfort during movement.
-

Active Integration
After hands-on work, we add mobility, stretching, strengthening, or movement drills so your body can use the improved range of motion. This helps manual therapy support longer-lasting progress.
What Manual Therapy Helps With
Neck stiffness · Upper back tightness · Low back pain · Shoulder pain ·
Hip restriction · Knee pain · Sciatica-related tightness · Headaches ·
Posture-related tension · Sports injuries · Workout soreness · Desk-related stiffness · Limited mobility · Muscle tension · Joint stiffness ·
Running-related tightness
About the Treatment
Manual therapy should feel targeted and helpful, not rushed or aggressive. You may feel pressure, stretching, or mild soreness in tight areas, but treatment is always adjusted to your comfort and goals. The goal is not just temporary relief. The goal is to help your body move better, load better, and respond better to the exercises and movement work that follow.
If you are sensitive to pressure, recovering from an injury, or unsure what your body can tolerate, let us know before treatment so we can adapt the session.
